Meaning of fathom thirty-three|::
There are two common meanings for the word fathom.
The definition means to deeply comprehend something. Everyone needs to understand what life is really all about, even though no one can fathom its entirety. One must understand who God is and what Jesus Christ has done for them. Jesus has made a huge impact on this world whether despite people believe he is the savior or not. Just look our calendar, most holidays and the fact that most religions reference him. He has changed the course of our history. His existance begs you to come to a conclusion on who he is, based on who he claimed to be. He is either the Son of God or he was not.
The original definition of a fathom is a measurement of depth. Fathoms have been in use since before 1600, and may be derived from "faethm", the Anglo Saxon word for "to embrace" (because it is roughly the distance from one hand to the other if your arms are out-stretched). A fathom is a length of rope (roughly 5.5 to 6 feet). Early sailors used this to measure how far below the ocean floor was.
Jesus at the age of 33, died in the fathom position. His open arms embraced the world calling all to come to him to find love, meaning and forgiveness. This is the most powerful symbol of love that will ever exist.
